National Assembly Health Committee chair for Health Sabina Chege has demanded an explanation from Nairobi Metropolitan Service Director General Mohammed Badi on circumstances that led to a woman being neglected to deliver outside Pumwani Hospital in Nairobi.
The angry Ms Chege has also put the management of Pumwani hospital on spot after emergence of a video making rounds on social media showing a woman delivering right outside the hospital gate, uncovered on the pavement in the scorching sun.
In the video, several people are heard pleading with the medical staff at the hospital to intervene amid claims that the expectant woman had been turned away by the facility.
Ms Chege warned that if enough and tangible reasons are not given by NMS director and the hospital management, she would lead women to hold protests across the country.
Speaking at Gikandu village during a women empowerment mission, Ms Chege condemned the act saying President Uhuru Kenyatta led administration has Linda Mama initiatives aimed at helping women to deliver for free and could not fathom why the helpless woman was left to die right outside the Health facility.
“I will not relent until I get enough reasons why the woman was left to suffer, I also want to know who drove her and abandoned outside the Pumwani Hospital, the gun blazing Women Representative said.
