The construction of the deplorable Maragua town road from Kenol to Muranga road will awaken the dwindling economy of Maragua town, locals and the area MCA Ichagaki One have said.
The 4 kilometer road has been the cause of a tussle between the leadership and the electorate and at one time in 2016, locals had to interrupt President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto who had camped at Maragua town for re election campaign reprimanding them to assure them of the road before engaging in politics.
The duo then made a road side declaration and promised that the construction works would begin in two weeks time but that never happened.
On Tuesday, MCA Charles Mwangi alias Ichagaki One, led locals in thanking the President for the road which is under construction, saying the state of economy was at the verge of collapsing since investors had started packing due to inhospitable and un-conducive environment for working.
“We are very thankful for the Uhuru Kenyatta led government for the tarmacking of the 4- kilometer road since no public service vehicle would pass through the already idle town, the ripple effect of the matter was that businesses had started performing dismally but things are now returning to norm,” Mr Ichagaki One said.
Locals could not hide their joy and satisfaction with the Head of State and even welcomed the President to launch the stretch.
They said the road would help them out more money in their pockets saying, few days after the road started, their businesses have ‘resurrected’.
“We are happy for the government for implementing the promise made by the President, we shall surely remain indebted for the road, it may be small but its effects cant be underestimated, the town was already dead but we are back to life again,” locals said.
