Nyeri politician and businessman Karweru Kiragu has come to the rescue of a family that has been living under deplorable conditions.
Mr Karweru Kiragu was informed about the plight of Mr Dennis Macharia’s family which have been living in a ramshackle cubicle room made of sacks with the door being an old blanket and decided to construct a three bed roomed house.
The family from Karura village, Magutu in Mathira Nyeri County had become a laughing stock in the entire village and when the well wisher heard about their plight he decided to built them a decent house.
Speaking when he opened the house, Mr Kiragu said he could not find peace upon knowing the plight of the poor family.
He called on the national government to devolved the construction of low cost houses to grassroots saying he is perturbed by the rate of poverty in grassroots villages.
“This is my second house to construct in Nyeri, government through the State department of housing should move with speed and devolve construction of low cost houses in mashinani,” he said.
Mr Kiragu also known as KK constructed house barely a month and rescued another family that endured cold and rains as their house had leakages that allowed rain and cold to ‘feast’ on them during the night.
He called on the community to always be mindful to the less fortunate in the spirit of good neighborhood.
“I would like to advise the community to join hands and construct a house to their neigbours who are at the verge of sleeping hungry or sleeping in the cold during this period,” he said.
Mr Kiragu who is seeking to dislodge Rigathi Gachagua in 2022 parliamentary elections has been in the forefront in championing and agitating for the rights of the poor in Mathira.
He is the national chairperson for Civic Renewal Party, a Presidential vehicle that Governor Mwangi Wa Iria will use in his bid to govern this country.
