Justice and Legal Affairs Committee chairperson and Kangema MP Muturi Kigano has urged the political class to lower their political undertones and leave President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga to solve the new revenue formula stalemate.
The MP said it was inconsequential, unfair and unwarranted for politicians to drag the handshake and BBI agenda into the revenue allocation debate, exuding confidence that the two handshake partners will coll down the stand off by coming up with a solution that will create a win win situation for all the 47 counties.
Speaking on Friday at Kangema Social Hall, the MP cautioned politicians not to poke holes in handshake since unity, a proponent factor of handshake was a key pillar to the country.
“Both the President and Mr Odinga will in the fullness of time come up with the solution on the revenue allocation formula, politicians should not politicize the matter into handshake and BBI agenda,” Mr Kigano said.
A section of politicians allied to Jubilee led by Senate Chief Whip Irungu Kangata had intimated that they would oppose BBI and re think on Handshake should the opposition Senators reject the Third generation revenue sharing formula a political statement that was backed by Mps Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) and Mathira’s Rigathi Gachagu.
Mr Kangata’s statement was informed by the fact that revenue allocation formula was a major factor to be addressed by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report and that there was no reason supporting its recommendations if the opposition opposed the formula.
Mr Kigano said the formula debate should not be entangled on the wider BBI’s objective.
The veteran politician and lawyer also castigated Tanga Tanga Senators who rejected the proposal saying they were on a revenge mission after they were ousted from their committees only for them to introduce the first wife and the concubine narrative pitting Dr Ruto as the first wife ditched for Mr Odinga as the concubine.
He called for sober, honest and reconciliatory discussion on the formula.
