As race for State house continues to take shape, opinion poll from Electoral Institute for sustainable Democracy in East Africa has shown that Presidential aspirant Mwngi Wa Iria will be at neck to neck competition with Deputy President William Ruto.
According to a poll conducted on the month of September in the 10 Mt Kenyacounties with 1500 respondents, the findings reveal that both Wa Iria and Ruto will be the main front runners while ODM leader Raila Odinga will take the distant third position.
It has also emerged that if elections were held today, Wa Iria, the Usawa Party leader will outshine Ruto in Muranga where he will garner 50 percent against Ruto’s 25 per cent, while in Laikipia, Wa iria can garner 42 percent against 38 while both political bigwigs can get 36 per cent with Raila getting 20per cent.
Raila on his part can only garner 20 per cent both in Muranga and in Lakipia counties.
According to the poll which was released to media outlets on October 1, 2021, Raila can only lead in Meru with 46 percent with Ruto’s becoming second with 31 percent and Wa Iria third with 20 percent of votes.
The ODM leader can also lead in Nairobi with 34 percent followed by Ruto with 32 percent and Wa Iria garnering 30 percent.
Ruto on his part can lead in Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nakuru counties.
If the outcomes of the polls is anything to go by, then it shows Wa Iria will show both Rail and Ruto a political dust in Mt Kenya region since both are pegging their hopes to ascend to State House on close to over 8 million votes.
Ruto and Raila have been making political inroads in the voter rich basket region with hopes to lure electorate to vote for them but with Wa Iria’s entry and with his name gaining popularity, it shows the Agikuyu community may end up choosing their own.
This will be a major boost on W Iria’s quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta and may be a major recipe for a Presidential run off since the one who will be elected may not garner the 50 percent plus one votes which is mandatory for one to be sworn in as the Kenyans President in accordance with the Kenyan constitution.
Wa Iria hs started meeting opinion leaders from cross Mt Kenya region and last week he pitched camps in Cost where he met serving and former elected leaders who included Joyce Lee.
He has mounted bill boards across the 47 counties and has branded over 800 state of art vehicles which he will use to crisscross the country.
His entry into the Presidential race has sent shock waves among the front runners and at one time, his motorcade were blocked from accessing Nyandarua County.
