Mt Kenya MCAs Caucus chairperson Charles Mwangi Nganga has castigated Deputy President William Ruto and Opposition chief Raila Odinga for failing to marshall their allied Senators support the revenue allocation formula.
The Ichagaki Ward MCA and an outspoken Muranga politician said the two leaders are not friends of Mt Kenya region saying it was high time the leaders from the region are back to the drawing board to evaluate the political relationship with them.
According to the MCA who is also known as Ichagaki One, Senators James Orengo (Siaya) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) are political henchmen of Mr Odinga and Dr Ruto respectively and that they must have instructed them to vehemently oppose the third generation revenue sharing formula that, if passed by the Senate, would have pumped over Sh3 billion in Mt Kenya counties.
“Mr Orengo and Mr Murkomen votes are Mr Odinga and Dr Ruto’s, this shows that the two leaders were not after the proposal, the most worrying and saddening part is that a whole chairperson for Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Senator Yusuf Hajji was also opposed to the formula,” Mr Ichagaki One noted.
He encouraged Senate Chief Whip Irungu Kangata to continue agitating for the revenue formula without fear or favour saying Mt Kenya region should not beg to get its rightful share of resources.
“Mt Kenya must agitate for it’s rightful share of revenue allocation without a show of desperation, we must also seize the opportunity to know and understand who are our friends,” Mr Ichagaki One said.
At the same time, the MCA set the records straight saying the proposal did not only favour Mt Kenya region but other regions like Nyanza and Rift Valley and is meant to address the inequalities on revenue formula.
