A 20- year old lad is among the seven contestants seeking to replace the late Cyrus Mbembe Kiiru who died last month.
The eight candidates have started grassroots campaigns to woe voters to elect them during the December 15 by election.
They include Mr Kelvin Mwangi Maina, 20, who believes he has all what it takes to be elected an MCA in the Ward believed to be the cradle of Agikuyu and Mumbi.
The candidate is using Party of Economic Democracy (PED) as his political vehicle to clinch the elective post in an area whose politics are determined by regional units dividing the Ward in Northerners and Southerners (Lower and Upper Gaturi).
Mr Maina was cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Friday describing him as the youngest candidate to seek an elective position.
“At 20 Kelvin Mwangi Maina of Party of Economic Democracy (PED) is the youngest candidate to be cleared for December 15 by election,” the Electoral body’s Returning Officer in Kiharu Faith Mugo said.
The party’s National Organising Secretary is Mr Enock Ombuna while its Interim chairperson is Mr Elik Tom Musamali.
The officials maintain that the party aimed at bringing together the youth, women and venerable members of society.
“We are set to go. We must empower our youths, women and those who are looked down upon in the society. Our party will provide opportunities to everyone regardless of age, gender and any kind of disability,” Mr Ombuna said while receivingtheir certificate from the Registrar of Politciakl Parties.
Other contenders include Ms Esther Mwihaki Kamau who was floored by Ms Rosemary Wakuthii during the Jubilee party polls held on October 9.
After losing the Jubilee party ticket to Ms Wakuthii, Ms Mwihaki rushed to the Peoples Empowerment Party (PEP) and obtained its certificate to face off with her rivals.
After the humiliating defeat, Mr Joshua Githinji who faced off with Ms Wakuthii and and Ms Mwihaki could not make a comeback and decided to stay at the periphery to watch those who know the game to have their way.
Other contenders are Jacob Mwangi Murira of The New Democratics (TND, John Muchoki Mbuthia Manendeleo Chap Chap, Christopher Mwangi Kimuhu National Ordinary Peoples Empowerment Union, Zabron Mwangi Mwaniki Nark Kenya and Simon Mwangi Njogu of the United Green Party (UGP)
