President Uhuru Kenyatta has been persuaded to extend his ‘charismatic’ leadership beyond 2022 after successfully overseeing the referendum.
Mt Kenya County Assembly Caucus chairperson and Ichagaki Ward MCA Charles Mwangi Nganga alias Ichagaki One says should the governance structure is changed then the current Constitution which bars the President from contesting for the Presidency becomes null and void.
The MCA says the President’s good and charismatic leadership is highly needed to govern the country and to continue serving as the Agikuyu community as the spokesperson.
“When Section 2A was repealed, the new law allowed the late President Daniel Moi to contest for the Presidency again, that is what informs my proposal to urge President Kenyatta to seek a fresh mandate of vying for the Presidency,” Mr Ichagaki One said.
At the same time, the MCA who spoke when he met a delegation from Mathioya Sub-County who had visited him in bid to plead with him to vie for Senate seat in 2022, the MCA slammed Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe for his sentiments that the country should be ready for Raila Odinga’s Presidency.
“Mr Murathe should not be telling us to prepare for Odinga’s Presidency while we should not be told about Peter Kenneth seeking to succeed President Kenyatta, Mr Kenyatta is the de factor kingpin in Mt Kenya region and he is free to seek re election bid should we change the current Constitution,” he added.
The MCA advocated for subdivision of the populous Constituencies to ensure proper representation and equity in terms of National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF).
He said currently there is inequity in CDF disbursement since some constituencies are populous than others but they receive the same amount of money.
“Kiharu and Maragua should be subdivided into two more constituencies to have equity. Senate should not bow down to pressure and strive to pass one man one shilling revenue formula so that counties in Mt Kenya gets their fair share of resources,” He added
