A youth group in Gitugi Ward Mathioya Constituency dubbed Tunoore has established an initiative to donate church goers masks in bid to contain Covid-19.
The group led by its chairperson Gachucha Manoah is informed by the fact that even after churches have been re-opened under strict conditions, some of them congregants have no masks and this could lead to increased infections.
Speaking after issuing the masks on Sunday, Mr Gachucha said close to 1000 members from ACK and Catholic churches benefitted with the masks.
He said the group intends to crisscross the whole ward and Mathioya Constituency at large to protect the locals from being infected with the virus.
“Although churches have been opened under conditions we felt obliged that the church members should have masks to protect themselves and their neighbours,” Mr Gachucha noted.

He stressed the need by priests to ensure strict adherence of public health guidelines to curb the spread of the virus saying failure to do so would necessitate the need to close the churches a move he opined would deny Christians spiritual nourishment.
“I urge all the spiritual leaders to continue stressing the need for their Christians to observe the Ministry of Health guidelines to keep them safe so that the government do nor rethink its decision and close the churches,” he added
