Former Gatanga legislator Humfrey Kimani Njuguna is reportedly seeking to succeed Governor Mwangi Wa Iria through Chama Cha Kazi ticket.
Reliable souces have revealed that Njuguna alias Roho Safi is banking on Kuria’s rising popularity in Muranga and Mt Kenya region to clinch the most coveted county seat.
Roho Safi who is currently the chairman of Moi University, Rivatex and board member member of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldoret will be hoping to take advantage of the emergence of so many gubernatorial candidates to pass through and ascend to the county’s top seat.
For example former Kigumo Mp Jamleck Kamau and Women Representative Wanjiru Chege hail from Kigumo and this means they will share the votes while Water PS Irungu Wairagu and Senator Irungu Kangata will share Kiharu’s votes with Irungu Nyakera and Chege sharing Mathioya’s votes.
This according to Roho Safi’s think tanks will be a major boost to him since he will be voted as a block by the larger Gatanga electorate which will also attract Maragua and Kandara thanks to the past political history that the three Constituencies share.
While Gatanga and Kandara used to be one constituency during the reign of the late Ndungu Mwichigi, Maragua’s semi arid nature is also felt in lower Gatanga in places like Kakuzi/ Mitumbiri and Ithanga wards and mostly these areas make similar political choices.
This according to pundits will be flavoured by Kuria who is emerging as an influential politician in Mt Kenya.
Kuria singlehandedly won Gaturi Ward and Juja parliamentary by elections while most of the Hustler Nation members acted as fence sitters.
Due to fear that Kuria would influence the region, dark forces worked day and night to have him removed as a party leader of Peoples Empowerment Party (PEP) but a relentless Kuria moved swiftly and established Chama Cha Kazi party which has established roots in the region.
In the ongoing Kiagu by elections, after United Democratic Alliance (UDA) sensed defeat, they sponsored a litigation that saw CCK’s candidate being barred from vying.
The party has since appealed the decision at the high court.
Kuria is also on record of starting the ongoing unity talks in the region which he maintains that they will not vote blindly but with an assurance that the region will get government positions.
It is his position that makes his party as the best alternative party to ensure democracy given that there seems to have a plan by UDA to only give their preferred candidates tickets ahead of next year’s polls.
